Is Matter Made of Light?

Is a photon made up of a faster-than-light quantum particle moving along a helical path whose circumference always equals its wavelength? And can that helical path close on itself when this superluminal quantum particle goes transluminal (passing through the speed of light billions of billions of times per second) to form an electron? Welcome to the home page of the Sonoma County Astronomical Society (SCAS). We have just migrated from our old web software to Adobe Dreamweaver. The main difference for our visitors is the new drop-down navagation menu at the top of the page. Please surf the menus and check out our site!

We are located in Sonoma Country, California. We invite you to attend any of our meetings or star parties. Click on the Calendar button to see dates. Meeting and Star Party locations are listed below.We also have a special group called the Young Astronomers especially for our younger members.

Who We Are

The purpose of the Sonoma County Astronomical Society (SCAS) is to:

Foster interest in astronomy and telescope making.
Promote general knowledge of Astronomy.
Encourage young people's interest in Astronomy.

Striking Sparks Program

One of our goals is to fuel the imagination of young people. Each year students submit essays explaining why they want a telescope. Sonoma County Astronomical Society (SCAS) awards six telescopes to those entering the best essays.

To further encourage and support youthful star-gazers, SCAS sponsors our Young Astronomers club.
